Air Sampling Test - Total Yeast and Mold - DRBC

Method Description

Air Sampling Test: Airborne yeasts and molds are ubiquitous fungi naturally present in the environment that become relevant in food and supplement manufacturing when their spores settle onto exposed surfaces, ingredients, or products during open processing. Monitoring fungal bioburden in facility air is a foundational element of environmental monitoring programs, supporting Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance, contamination risk assessment, and the integrity of microbial specifications for finished goods. This method captures airborne particles onto Dichloran Rose Bengal Chloramphenicol (DRBC) agar using active or passive air sampling, then applies quantitative PCR (qPCR) to detect and enumerate yeast and mold populations with high sensitivity and specificity, enabling rapid turnaround compared to traditional culture-based enumeration.
