Listeria spp.
bioMérieux GENE-UP® Listeria spp. 2 (LIS 2)
Method Description
Listeria spp. are a group of psychrotrophic bacteria capable of surviving and, in some cases, growing at refrigeration temperatures, making them a concern in food processing environments and ready-to-eat products. While not all species are pathogenic, their presence can indicate conditions that may support Listeria monocytogenes, the primary causative agent of listeriosis, a severe illness with high risk for immunocompromised individuals and pregnant women. Testing for Listeria spp. is important for environmental monitoring and hygiene verification, as it serves as an early indicator of potential contamination. The qPCR method enables rapid and sensitive detection compared to traditional culture-based approaches, supporting timely corrective actions and improved food safety management.
