Salt (as Chloride)
None
Titration - Colorimetric
Method Description
This method determines chloride content in food samples by indirect potentiometric back titration. Chloride is extracted from the sample into water and, under acidic conditions, precipitated with a known excess of silver nitrate. The remaining silver nitrate is back-titrated with potassium thiocyanate. Chloride content is expressed as sodium chloride (NaCl). This method measures total chloride ions present and assumes all chloride originates from sodium chloride. Other chloride salts (e.g., CaCl₂, KCl) are also measured, but the associated cations are not differentiated.
