Sugar Alcohol Screen

None
GC-FID

Method Description

This method determines sugar alcohol content, and optionally simple sugars, using gas chromatography (GC) with flame ionization detection (FID). Samples are extracted, converted to oximes, derivatized, and analyzed by GC. Quantitation is based on response factors from known standards. For nutritional labeling purposes, the ISO-accredited Sugar Profile by HPLC method is recommended for reporting sugar values.
